Energy Savings

A programmable thermostat can save you about 10% or more per year off of

your total energy bill. Having your thermostat change to a higher temp in

the summer and a lower temp in the winter for when people are not home

makes a big difference.

If you average bill is $150 per month or $1800 per year you could save $180

minus the $50 cost of a thermostat and that is $130 the first year.

Additionally you can save even more if you r home has inadequate insulation

and seals. If your feel drafts in the winter then that cold air must be

coming from some where. There are many product on the market today and a

lot of do it yourself educational videos and free manuals that can help

you. Also most products or being creative can make the cost to fix some

issues very cheap. Analyst estimate that you can save 5-30% by making some

minor modifications. It may be worth the cost of hiring a professional

energy consultant for an assessment or contact your local utility provider

to see if they offer a free evaluation. (many do) Make certain that whom

ever you have do this for you that they can do a thermo-scan of your home

and that they do it in depth from inside to out.

They should also evaluate your appliances, lighting and all energy

consuming products in your home. most will recommend energy efficient

lighting and surge strips for applicances that use electricity even when

they are turn off.
