What are some hardy plants for the winter in zone 7?

Thank author of this post/commentI live in Stockton CA zone 7. Im doing my landscape in my front yard along the porch. But i want to add some plants or flowers that add color to the yard in the winter. All i have so far for color is green in the winter. what plants/flowers are hardy sto survive in the winter and add color to my landscape? I never snows here if that helps

Take a look at the list included in the attached link. All these plants survive when covered in ice so if it doesn't snow where you are then these will definitely do. The list includes Japanese maples. I live in Japan and can say firsthand that these trees add a lot of color to an otherwise grey landscape, especially in the late fall and early winter. Good luck!

Oh, thanks for sharing some good ideas as to what to plant during winter seasons. I would like to still keep a beautiful landscaped outdoors even during winter seasons. And I actually find it hard to find some good plants to grow, considering how hard it is to plant, which is almost impossible at all, during winter.

But this time, I know what to plant and I know what to do.

Try the poinsettia and the holly. These two traditional winter or Christmas plants will survive a whole lot, though the holly may suffer if there isn't enough cold weather around to give it its winter kick. Both of these plants bloom in the dead of winter which makes for a nice change. Also, if your California weather is sunny enough and really has no snow, then you could try tangerines.
